While 2021 may have offered many challenges, we’re pleased to say that it’s also been a period of growth and success for us here at Precision Products UK. Agility, determination and great organisational teamwork have all been key contributors.
Here’s our 2021 round-up!
Employee growth
We’ve enjoyed welcoming 16 new team members to PPUK this year, raising our employee number from 76 to 92. Our engineering department, in particular, has benefitted from talented new team members.
As global leaders in the manufacture and supply of marine and industrial piston rings, we make sure our team members have the training, skills, and experience to provide quality products — first time, on time, every time.
Building improvements
To accommodate our expanding team, our site has undergone some major building improvements.
The finalisation of “Bay 3” has increased our production area by nearly one third, giving us the space we need for production and machinery. We also upgraded the roof and cladding on the original building. This upgrade has improved the building’s thermal efficiency, providing environmental benefits.
New machinery
This year, we also invested in new machinery and machinery improvements to ensure we’re producing the best quality piston rings, metallic and non-metallic seals. The improvements have already proved to be a worthwhile investment, allowing for increased production capacity that puts us in good stead for 2022.
Greater capacity means shorter lead times so you can get the products you need without delay.
Introduction of composite materials to our portfolio
As well as boosting productivity and capacity and enabling us to achieve quicker turnaround times, our new machinery has given us the opportunity to add a new string to our bow. The introduction of composite materials to our portfolios means we can offer a broader range of technical solutions and cover different industry sectors.
We’re looking forward to servicing new applications including:
– Thrust pads and Plates
– Pump and compressor wear rings
– Throat, throttle, and centre bushings
– Labyrinth seals
International travel resumed
After a year of restrictions, we were able to resume business travel. This gave us the opportunity to visit exhibitions that offered excellent learning experiences. We took part in Europort in the Netherlands, ADIPEC in UAE, and Kormarine in South Korea. These shows gave us a deeper understanding of the challenges marine and industrial workers face and how the right machinery parts can help.
Award recognition
This Autumn, we were thrilled to have been recognised by the MakeUK North East Yorkshire and Humberside Manufacturing Awards. It was a proud moment to have our team members recognised for their contribution to the sector in terms of business growth and strategy. We were particularly heartened that we received this recognition in the context of such unprecedented times.
What’s next for PPUK?
As we move towards 2022, we’re grateful for all the hard work our team has put into making Precision Products UK as successful as it has been this year. We’re looking forward to further growth in all areas — in Research and Development and the production of top-quality marine and industrial piston rings.
Thoughts from Dominic Rogers (Head of Sales)
Given the headwinds of BREXIT and Covid-19, we all knew that 2021 was going to be a challenging year. This only went to escalate our main focuses, which as always are the safety and welfare of our staff and supporting our customers.
With this in mind, we consider 2021 to be a successful year, with the business coming through at this turbulent time and showing considerable growth in the process.
Personally, some of the biggest highlights have been the growth of the PPUK team with numerous strategic recruits, as well as the development of our composite capabilities which allows us to offer a wider variety of solutions to our customers.
Looking ahead to 2022, we are in for another exciting year, having face to face meetings with customers, visiting various exhibitions globally and building on our relationships which are already very well established.
